The CPC 800 GPS XLT is the portable fork-mounted top-class telescope from Celestron and features the StarBright XLT coating. The telescope is perfect for visual observations and, with an optional polar wedge and an astro camera, also enables professional astrophotography.

If you point the telescope at the planets, you'll see fascinating details on the surface of Jupiter, the Cassini division of Saturn's rings, and surface details on Mars. Even Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are within your reach.

Despite the large aperture, the telescope is so portable thanks to the practical carrying handle and a weight of around 19kg so that you can set it up easily in your garden as well as in your favorite spot under a dark sky.

Professional XLT computer telescopes:
With the CPC series, Celestron is introducing the most stable fork mount that has ever been available in the 40 years of production of Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. The completely newly designed tripod and a huge 280mm ball bearing in the fork base enable vibration-free observation even at the highest magnifications.

The azimuthal fork mount is not as variable as the German mount, as it is tailored to the tube diameter. This disadvantage is compensated for by the compact design, low weight, good portability and, most importantly, incredibly quick setup. You are ready to observe in just a few minutes. Simply set up the tripod, level it with the built-in bubble level, put on the fork mount - and switch it on.

Built-in GPS:
The 16-channel GPS receiver transmits the time, date and location coordinates to the electronics. This means you no longer have to enter the time and location yourself - the telescope automatically has the exact data.

Sky Align:
This is the name of the brand new alignment process from Celestron for perfect GoTo positioning. The telescope no longer needs a defined base position: you place three bright stars (planets and the moon are also possible) in the field of view of the telescope one after the other and voilá, your CPC telescope is ready for automatic GoTo positioning on any object from the hand control database.

SkyAlign calculates the setup of your telescope from the travel distances of the three stars and the corresponding angles. SkyAlign also gets the other data required (date, time, and location coordinates) via the integrated 16-channel GPS receiver.

"SkyAlign" only works when the telescope is in azimuthal operation, i.e. when the telescope is operated directly on the tripod without a polar wedge. But Celestron also has some new and simplified alignment methods for parallactic operation in the CPC series.

Extensive database:
The CPC telescope database contains over 40,000 celestial objects, including the Messier and Caldwell catalogs, as well as galaxies and nebulae from the NGC catalog and the planets. You can narrow down your selection to make searching this comprehensive database easier and to hide objects that are currently below the horizon.

The "Identify" function tells you what you are currently seeing in the telescope and also allows you to easily explore the sky. Simply point the telescope at any area of the sky and have it show you, for example, the nearest Messier objects - the telescope will navigate to them for you. You can do this in different areas of the sky and with different objects!

The CPC telescopes also score points with the following details:
The azimuthal fork mount has been completely redesigned. It is less susceptible to vibrations and the drive motors and gears run "whisper quiet" in GoTo mode. The tripod that supports the mount and telescope has also become more stable.
The completely newly designed tripod (landing pad) has a self-centering mounting device - no searching in the dark for the right attachment point for the mounting foot on the tripod. By rotating the mount on the tripod, the screw holes lock into the right position. Three spring-supported screws, which are anchored in the tripod, enable quick and, above all, effortless assembly in a matter of seconds. The built-in bubble level makes leveling easier. The large tripod triangle also serves as a storage area for several eyepieces.

Other features include:

  • Illuminated on/off switch on the top of the housing - so no more searching in the dark,
  • Large, easy-to-grip clamping wheels (suitable for gloves) in both axles instead of fiddly small clamping levers,
  • The "Permanent PEC" function stores the periodic errors of the screw to improve the tracking accuracy,
  • The electronics work with all autoguiders and planetarium programs available on the market,
  • The "Alignment Sync" function allows you to improve positioning accuracy during operation by confirming a new alignment object,
  • The "Precise Goto" function allows very faint objects to be brought extremely precisely into the center of the field of view or a CCD chip. First, a bright star close to the object being searched for is selected by the electronics and moved to it. The observer must then move it precisely to the center of the field of view using the arrow keys on the hand controller. The computer then calculates the distance from this star to the object being searched for and moves to it with high precision.
  • Finally, another new "feature" of the hand controls of version 4.0 of the CPC series: thanks to a flash EPROM, the control and motor software can be upgraded via the Internet.

Avoid electronic damage – remember to use the right power supply!
To ensure the device works properly, please only use high-quality power supplies that meet the specifications for astro-use, i.e. outdoor use – cheap power supplies often only deliver the specified voltage and power at room temperature and can even damage the electronics in the worst case. Suitable high-quality power supplies can be found on the left under Optional Accessories.
