UNC stands for 'Universal Newtonian Telescopes with Carbon tube' and Each UNC Newtonian is individually manufactured for you and optimized in Germany. The 6" f/5 UNC Newtonian is a compact and transportable excellent all-round telescope suitable for both visual observation and Astrophotography - Astrophotographers will appreciate the higher speed f/5 focal ratio. In combination with a  suitable coma-corrector, this Newtonian is excellent for deep sky astrophotography.

This UNC can also be used for lunar and planetary observations too - For observing with commercially available eyepieces you will need a 2" (35mm) extension tube, which gives you better focus.

The advantages of the TS UNC Newtonian telescopes:

  1. High-quality, German-made carbon tube with highest stability
  2. Optimized focus position.
  3. Primary mirror cell and secondary mirror cell is further improved by TS Optics
Easy collimation of primary and secondary mirror - can be carried out by hand, without tools.
  4. The edge of the secondary mirror is also blackened.
  5. Comes with a TS UNCN2-G2 2" rack and pinion focuser with M54 x 0.75 intermediate thread.
  6. The secondary is attached to the secondary mount with the optimal offset
94% reflectivity on primary mirror and secondary mirror for a brighter image.
  7. Diffraction limited primary mirror - each telescope is tested on an optical bench before shipment.

The tube inner side of the UNC Newtonian telescopes is also darkened to prevent reflections and provide better image contrast.

The Carbon Tube - finest precision work:
The carbon tube is extra solid and completely reinforced throughout and particularly around the focuser making the overall OTA much stiffer and less prone to expansion or contraction  during temperature changes, unlike like metal OTA's. The openings for the secondary are precisely fitted to ensure that the secondary spider vanes are perfectly correct and the telescope produces perfectly thin spikes right from the start.

Focus position optimized for astrophotography:
The focus point is 135mm above the tube. This allows you to use different focusers and still have a comfortable working distance. With the standard focuser UNCN2-G2 you get 80mm working distance. For standard correctors like the Baader MPCC or the TS-Optics MAXFIELD corrector we recommend the 20mm spacer, which goes between the focuser. This gives you then 60mm backfocus. For visual observations with an eyepiece you need an additional  2" extension tube.

The 2" TS UNCN2-G2 RAP focuser:
A core component of the TS UNC-Newtons is the modern TS UNCN2-G2 focuser. The focuser builds up only 58mm from the tube edge and still carries heavy cameras and accessories without tilting. The focuser is superior to conventional Crayford focusers.

  • High stiffness with extremely short length
  • Exact 1:10 dual-speed gear - for perfectly focused astrophotographs
  • Adjustment is decoupled from the ball bearing - a clear advantage over Crayford focusers
  • Upgradable with motor focus
  • Ball bearings are adjustable, so the focuser can be adjusted perfectly.
  • Threaded connection of accessories is also possible - the 2" receptacle can be unscrewed, then an M54 x 0.75 female thread is available.

Parabolic primary mirror:
Newtonian primary mirrors made of fused silica are free of strain and provide an image that is usually much better than diffraction limited types. The surface is coated with an enhanced 94% reflection layer and a protective quartz layer. The primary mirror has a central marking as an adjustment aid for collimation.

Quality guarantee through optics test by TS Optics:

  • After assembly, each Newtonian telescope is checked by technicians to ensure that the optics and mechanics work together smoothly.
  • The mechanics are checked and the focuser is adjusted to the optimum setting.
  • The optics are collimated and the result is checked on the optical bench.
  • A complete optical test is performed and is included with the telescope (star images and Ronchi grating images on the optical bench in autocollimation).
  • Only then are the telescopes transferred to the warehouse or prepared for shipping.

NOTE: Before shipping, the primary mirror with the cell is removed from the tube and packed separately. This is to guarantee safe shipment and avoid unnecessary transport damages.

The focus position and change of secondary mirror diameter:
The standard position with a good 80mm working distance above the 2" receptacle has proven to be very versatile and come easily into focus with various correctors and reducers too. The spacers allow you to remove the focuser from the tube without sacrificing stability.

Assembly and collimation instructions:
The telescope is delivered disassembled into several units for safety during transport. The assembly and adjustment are not complicated and you can download the instructions in advance. The PDF can be downloaded here.
