The CGX-L mount is the big brother of the CGX and has a very large payload capacity of up to 34kg - enough for even the largest Observatory grade Telescopes and accessories. With a weight of less than 24kg for the mount and 21kg for the tripod, it is still possible to transport thanks to the large carry handles and modular design.

The CGX-L was developed for small observatories and remote operations, with a focus on a good payload-to-weight ratio, a compact design and innovative details for the use of large telescopes, photo equipment and the latest wireless accessories.

A key role is played by the generously dimensioned 144mm worm gears, which enable smoother running even with heavy telescopes, and the dovetail clamp, which has been extended to 270mm also holds large telescopes securely. For remote operation, there are optical sensors for the home and limit positions, simplified settings for north alignment and improved cable routing. There are also mechanical and ergonomic improvements that make the mount even more stable, user-friendly and transportable.

With the dual dovetail clamp for CG-5 (Vixen, Celestron) or CGE (3-inch), you can easily switch between smaller telescopes and large Schmidt-Cassegrains, for example. For Astrophotography, the mount has powerful responsive motors that are connected to the axes via a sturdy toothed belt. This means the mount responds almost immediately to control commands, even from an autoguider. There is no play in the gears, and since the worm gears are also spring-loaded, the play is largely eliminated - you don't have to readjust even when there are large temperature differences, the worms and gears have optimal contact.

The large screws are easy to grip, so you can loosen or tighten them easily even when wearing gloves - the polar height adjustment has also been redesigned so that you can easily adjust the mount even when it is fully loaded. A polar finder is available as an option, but is generally unnecessary: With the All-Star Polaralign you can align the mount to any brighter star through the telescope, and for perfection, the Polaralign function has always been superior to the standard polar finder. As a special feature, you can move the mount on the base plate of the extra-wide tripod head - this allows you to position the center of gravity perfectly over the tripod, for the entire usable latitude range from 3 to 65° north or south latitude.

As a photographic mount, it is just as suitable for mobile use as it is for remote operation. Internal sensors ("switches") automatically bring the mount into the home position and prevent it from moving too far and hitting something when panning. The internal cabling also serves to ensure safety: all connections (power, hand controller, AUX and autoguider) are in the base of the mount and do not move with it.

The hand controller can be controlled in the traditional way via ASCOM and the hand controller (with USB connection) via PC, or you can use the control software included as a download in the scope of delivery, which was developed together with Planewave Instruments. Multipoint GoTo modeling, plate solving and control of the focuser are just a few functions that you normally have to add for remote operation - with the CGX this software is included in the scope of delivery. Here you do not need the hand controller, but can use the USB connection on the mount directly.

Mount features at a glance:

  1. Compact, low-profile mounting head for greater stability and better portability. More stable and rigid with shorter settling time.
Improved motors with more torque for better swiveling and tracking even with heavy loads
  2. Heavy-duty toothed belts minimize gear play and enable short reaction times even with heavy loads
  3. Viewing windows in the motor housings show the activity of the drives
  4. Spring-loaded worm gears made of measurement and stainless steel reduce friction and increase the accuracy of fit
  5. Internal wiring, power and lower connectors do not move when the mount pans
  6. Home and limit switches – internal hardware stops for RA and Dec to avoid cable clutter and collisions with the tripod
  7. Internal optical sensors on both axes for easy and safe remote operation
  8. Home sensors allow the mount to always return to the home position, regardless of the position it was in before the power was interrupted
  9. Limit sensors automatically interrupt tracking or panning before the mechanical stops are reached
  10. Includes the sophisticated PWI control software developed in conjunction with Planewave Instruments. Handles multi-point go-to modeling, focusing and plate solving. No additional control software is required, saving you hundreds of euros!
Software-assisted polar alignment: "All-Star Polar Alignment" enables quick and very precise polar alignment. Use any bright star without additional accessories or apps.
  11. Position of the mount head on the tripod is adjustable to optimally place the center of gravity above the tripod and to optimally utilize the large latitude range of 3-65°
  12. Dual dovetail mount for CG-5/EQ/Vixen and CGE/3" standard
  13. Tracks up to 20º on either side of the meridian, supports SkyPortal WiFi and StarSense AutoAlign modules.
  14. Tripod legs can be folded without removing the accessory tray.
  15. Revised tripod with larger spread angle for more stability. The minimum height of the tripod has been lowered due to popular demand

Improved ergonomics:

  • Two handles for easier transport and assembly
  • Non-slip clamps for dovetail clamping
  • Innovative and improved system for north alignment
  • Revised polar altitude adjustment mechanism, even when the mount is fully loaded. A stationary polar altitude adjustment knob with a newly developed connection system reduces friction when aligning the mount to the north. A revised azimuth adjustment with low-friction Teflon bearings makes it easier to align a fully loaded mount to the north.
  • Easy-to-read latitude scale

Electronics:

  1. NexStar+ hand controller with USB connection
  2. USB 2.0 socket for direct connection to a PC with the PWI software
  3. 2 x autoguider connectors for optimal cable management
  4. PEC sensor, PPEC Ready - for automatic correction of periodic screw error
  5. 12V power connection
  6. Internal Real Time Clock
