These Silica Gel sachets are a useful way to protect your Astronomy equipment such as Cameras, Focusers, Telescopes and other items from moisture while in storage or while not in use. If a Telescope is stored permanently outside in an Observatory or a Shed, then moisture can considerably shorten its life due to the potential for dampness and moisture build up inside lenses or corrosion on electronic circuitry, and power connectors etc.
These Silica Gel Sachets also contain coloured balls inside to indicate when they are saturated and need to be replaced or regenerated.
How to use:
Using a clear plastic bag, place the required number of sachets into the bag and place the camera or other piece of equipment into the bag and seal it closed.
If the camera, filter wheel or focuser etc. is attached to your Telescope for example, simply place the bag over the item and use a rubber band to keep it sealed. You can place as many sachets as needed in the bag depending on the size of the item.
Note: Bag should be sealed either with a rubber band or equivalent to ensure no more moisture can enter the bag.
Regeneration:
These Sachets can be regenerated and reused if required. Inside the bag are coloured balls that change colour to indicate whether it should be regenerated or not.
ORANGE = DRY
GREEN = DAMP (Should be replaced or regenerated)
Note: Sachets that are torn need to be replaced.
To regenerate, simply place the sachet on a baking tray in an oven and gradually increase the temperature to max 110deg and leave for a few hours. When they are dried out they should be orange again. The oven should NOT be pre-heated first, as the gel balls can crack. A Microwave is also not suitable.
Storage:
Always store your Silica Sachets in a sealed bag to prevent them from absorbing moisture from the ambient air.
