As the largest Maksutov-Cassegrain model in the NexStar family, the compact SLT 127 is a dedicated planetary specialist capable of 250x magnification. This perfectly hits the sweet spot for average atmospheric limits, making heavier setups unnecessary. With a 127mm aperture, it captures enough light to reveal stunning detail on solar system objects and some deeper space objects too - being a Maksutov design, this telescope is exceptionally good at viewing the moon and planets in very high detail.

The Mount:

The SLT mount is a single-arm alt azimuth mount and is optimized for quick setup and easy portability. Unlike a traditional equatorial mount, you don't need to painstakingly align the telescope to the north, adjust the polar altitude, or carry counterweights. The mount is simply set up horizontally, and after alignment (which involves simply selecting any three bright stars), the computer automatically ensures that the telescope slews to the desired objects and keeps them in focus: The automatic tracking compensates for the Earth's rotation. This makes SLT telescopes ideal for anyone who wants to observe the night sky firsthand: Quick to set up and with all the necessary convenience.

However, this doesn't mean you have to forgo astrophotography: Lunar photography with a DSLR or planetary photography with a video camera like the Celestron NexImage 5 are also possible with the SLT altazimuth mount. A T2 thread is integrated into the 1.25" reducer. However please note that for deepspace astrophotography an equatorial mount is recommended

The hand controller contains a database with thousands of objects to view. These include, of course, the planets of the solar system, as well as countless galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, and interesting stars. Having trouble choosing?

SkyAlign - Setup without prior knowledge of the sky:

The NexStar SLT mount has motors with encoders on both axes and to initialize the computer control, simply enter the time and location (selectable from the database) into the hand controller and slew to any three bright celestial objects – it doesn't matter which ones, you don't even need to know them! Once the alignment is correctly done, the mount then knows what the sky looks like above it and will automatically point to any other object at the touch of a button.

Tip: The SLT telescopes can be retrofitted at any time with the optional StarSense module – then the initialization of the telescope runs fully automatically! This is a small camera that mounts to the telescope, allowing it to automatically orient itself in the sky – without GPS. With StarSense, all you have to do is set up the telescope, turn it on, and wait about three minutes. Since StarSense is compatible with all modern, computer-controlled Celestron telescopes, you can continue using it even if you later upgrade to a larger telescope – StarSense also works with observatory-class telescopes.

Like all Celestron NexStar telescopes, the NexStar SLT can also be controlled via PC. All you need is the USB cable. Using the NexRemote software or the widely used ASCOM interface, you can then control the telescope from a Windows PC.

The battery compartment is integrated into the mount and hidden under a cover. This eliminates the need for an external battery pack to become a tripping hazard.

The Celestron NexStar SLT telescope mount is a robust single-arm altazimuth mount that can be assembled without tools. Large, easy-grip screws make assembly possible even with gloves. The sturdy steel tripod features a storage tray for accessories and a holder for the hand controller and the mount supports telescopes weighing up to approximately 4kg, depending on the design. The clamping mechanism on the mount's arm is compatible with any standard Vixen (V) dovetail joint and holds it securely. A bubble level integrated into one of the tripod legs also simplifies setup and helps you level the mount before use.

The Power Supply

The computer control system naturally requires power. The mount offers several power supply options: either via eight standard AA batteries for complete independence, or via an optional car cigarette lighter adapter cable, or via an optional AC adapter. The integrated battery compartment in the mount eliminates cable clutter and allows for maximum portability.

Specifically designed for Celestron telescopes, a separate outdoor Power Supply which is is cold-resistant is also available. It delivers the necessary voltage even at low temperatures – cheaper power supplies designed for indoor use often provide insufficient power in cold conditions.
