This high-quality professional grade Apochromatic Refractor telescope is ideal for Astrophotography with its 103mm SD optical elements. The telescope is manufactured in Japan and boasts excellent workmanship, sharpness, and contrast performance.
The advantage of this SD refractor also lies in its short length and light weight and whether viewing the lunar surface or Saturn with its complex ring system, you will be very impressed. On a good night, Jupiter 's two bright cloud bands and many smaller details, such as the Great Red Spot, will also be clearly visible. On moonless nights, you can observe countless Galaxies and Nebula visible in the night sky. Even fainter celestial objects become visible with this large aperture under very dark skies.
This telescope set, "Made in Japan," is exceptionally built. The FPL53 glass used in the telescope reproduces an extremely clear and sharp image thanks to its exceptionally high reduction of residual chromatic aberration. The SD glass is designed to focus all rays—violet, red, blue, yellow, and green—precisely onto the same plane and a special lens material reduces chromatic aberration across all colors .
The new Vixen SD103SII also eliminates the need for spacers, resulting in significantly improved image quality, especially around bright stars. This eliminates the star spikes previously caused by spacers in photographic images.
When used with the optional SD Reducer HD Kit or SD Flattener HD (not included), this refractor telescope provides a 44mm image circle for full-frame DSLR cameras . The older ED81SII, ED103S, and ED115S refractors were originally designed for visual observers and photographers using APS-C cameras. However, the new SD series, with its redesigned internal baffles, is also optimized for full-frame cameras. The large 60mm focuser allows for the stable mounting of even heavy cameras. Furthermore, the included diagonal mirror allows for comfortable viewing even in challenging observing positions and also features a T2 thread for attaching a DSLR camera. This enables you to observe in straight-line or at 90° angles. The carrying handle attached to the tube rings ensures a secure grip when transporting the telescope and the sturdy metal tripod allows for vibration-free shooting of the telescope and mount, even in windy weather.
Details of the SXD2 Mount:
Precision stepper motors and Micro-Step Motion Control System
The heart of the SXD2 are the precision stepper motors, offering better performance and response than previous models. The Micro-Step Motion Control System is noted for its powerful yet very quiet driving characteristics, suitable for both fine movements and rapid swivelling.
Built-in bearings.
The bearings of the RA and DEC axes and the worm shafts have been significantly improved to reduce the load on the motors. As a result, the motors move much more quietly than in previous models.
High-precision worm gears.
Advanced manufacturing technologies have eliminated errors in worm gears. The edges of both the worms and worm gears are exceptionally smooth, allowing very precise tracking.
Declination axis as counterweight.
The massive motor units are built into the lower part of the declination axis, lowering the center of gravity of the SXD2 just below the intersection point of the RA and DEC axes. This reduces the need for additional counterweights.
Latitude adjustment.
The latitude is adjustable between 0 and 70 degrees (divided into 3 zones and adjustable +/- 15 degrees per zone, for high, medium, and low latitudes); latitude scale in 2-degree steps; fine adjustment with a tangent screw head, about 0.8 degrees per turn.
Built-in PFL-II Polar Finder with Illumination.
The built-in 5x20 mm polar finder with a 10° field of view features a 3-star alignment system. This eliminates the tedious setting of date and time. The illuminated reticle with variable brightness and automatic shutoff is adjustable in 8 steps and illuminated in red. The alignment accuracy is 3 arc minutes.
Details of the Wireless Module.
The Vixen Wifi Adapter for EQ mounts enables you to control your Vixen mount via a smartphone or tablet. With the STAR BOOK Wireless smartphone app (free), celestial navigation is simple and wireless. The app instantly transforms your mobile device into a control for the equatorial mount. The reaction delay (or time lag) of the mount, a major disadvantage of other wireless connections, has been reduced to a level comparable to a fully wired version.
Operation similar to the STAR BOOK TEN control
The STAR BOOK Wireless App is set up similarly to the STAR BOOK TEN control. Depending on the star chart setting, it contains up to 259,000 celestial objects. Tap a celestial object in the list and start the GoTo. The mount will now automatically move to this target and bring it into the field of view of the telescope. All popular features of the STAR BOOK TEN are retained.
Convenient operation.
While looking through the telescope, you operate the mount by swiping on the star chart in the app. Since there are no buttons, you simply glide your finger across the star chart to easily operate the mount.
Extensive astronomical data included.
This includes data on easily observable celestial bodies such as Messier objects, NGC objects, IC objects, as well as the sun, moon, planets, comets, and dwarf planets.
High-precision alignment.
Alignment on one or two stars already provides a fairly accurate positioning of the mount. Alignment on three or more stars allows for extremely precise alignment of the mount for high magnifications. The objects are then positioned exactly and centrally in the field of view of your telescope. The alignment information is stored and can also be retained when the device is turned off. By leaving the telescope in its current state after an observation, without moving it, you can start the next observation with the same settings.
Individual adjustment options.
As with the STAR BOOK TEN control, the app offers various individual settings such as gear play compensation, red night mode, autoguider, variable GoTo speed, and LED brightness. You can also set the time of reversal of the objective tube (Meridian Flip) according to your preference. Even if the object moves south during tracking, you can prevent the telescope tube from reversing.
Important Information.
Not usable on old SX mounts with the old blue Star Book
Technical Information about the Wifi Module.
CPU with 32-bit CISC processor at 120 MHz
The unit connects to the mount via a D-SUB 9PIN connector, as with the STAR BOOK TEN.
It has a 6-pin, 6-wire modular connector for external autoguider operation.
