The Asterion EQ platform is specially designed for automatic tracking of Dobsonian telescopes. Setup is so easy, simply place your Dobson on the platform, turn on the tracking motor and the target remains in the center of the eyepiece.
This is ideal for planetary & Lunar photography as the platform tracks your telescope for about an hour. After this it has to be reset again by simply lifting the telescope a little and moving it back on the platform.
The operation of the platform is very simple:
Set up the platform as level as possible. The built-in spirit level helps you with this. On soft ground, you should use some kind of underlay to prevent it sinking.
Align the platform in a north-south direction. The drive motor must point to the south, the circle segment to the north. A compass or an App on a smartphone is all you need for alignment.
Place your Dobsonian on the platform and turn on the tracking motor and you're ready to go (N stands for northern hemisphere - S stands for southern hemisphere).
Areas of application of the Dobsonian platform:
Tracking for your Dobsonian telescope (up to 30 kg) for visual observation.
Also suitable for azimuthally mounted binoculars and spotting scopes. The mount or photo tripod only needs to be well attached to the platform to prevent it falling.
The platform is perfect for photographing the moon & planets but is not designed for photographing nebulae, star clusters and galaxies.
About the Asterion Ecliptica tracking platform:
Ecliptica Light is made of durable and moisture-resistant plywood. The platform is reinforced with ribs. The aluminium guide rails of the platform roll on mounted steel axes while the electric motor ensures a smooth process, easy setup.
The Ecliptica Light platform allows the use of all common models of Dobsonian telescopes up to 10". A larger telescope can also be mounted if its weight are ultra-light and meet the required weight limits. The most important thing to consider is the height of the center of gravity of the entire telescope and its total weight.
Field of application: Ideal for all locations between 52° and 58° north/south latitude (which includes Northern Europe)
Maximum diameter of the telescope base: 530 mm
Power supply: 9 V block battery
