This versatile camera uses the state-of-the-art "back-illuminated" Sony IMX492 sensor.

Sony specifies a sensor diagonal of 21.63mm. However, due to sensor refinement by ZWO the true diagonal is 23.2mm.

The 4.63µm pixels of the ZWO ASI294MM Pro make this camera an all-rounder with highest sensitivity for short exposure times in deep sky photography. Additionally, binning can be switched off, then the pixel size is only 2.32 µm, which increases the detail resolution - even planets can be photographed extremely well this way.

Advantages and features of the ASI MC294MMPro mono camera:

USB 3.0 for a fast download - can also be used with USB 2.0

DDR3 memory buffer to help improve data transfer reliability. By cooling down the camera up to 35°C below ambient, the already low noise characteristics can be further reduced. By increasing gain (like the ISO setting of DSLR cameras), you can reduce exposure times to below 30 seconds. Effects from seeing or inaccuracies of the drive are therefore eliminated.

Lunar and planetary images: Extremely short exposure times (due to high sensitivity) freeze the seeing. Through the high resolution of the sensor, many details can be reproduced even at shorter focal length. Video astronomy is also possible.

Important: external power supply is required!
Please notice that all ZWO cameras with a cooling system need to be connected to an external 11-15V power supply to work. Even when the cooler is not being used the power supply must be used for the camera to be reliably recognized.

These cameras are not airtight, so if the camera remains on the telescope, it is exposed to moisture. The small amount of desiccant in the camera can protect the sensor and the inside of the protective glass from moisture for the duration of the exposure, but not for days on end. Moisture problems can be the result. A simple trick is to stretch a plastic bag around the focuser to which the camera is attached so that no air can get in. Silica gel is placed in a small cloth bag inside the plastic bag. This will also create a "dry climate zone" for the camera on the telescope. This allows you to leave the camera on the telescope for a few days for an imaging session lasting several days.

In the medium and long term, however, this is no substitute for proper storage in an airtight case with silica gel.

Specs:

Sensor: 4/3" CMOS Sony mono IMC492LLJ - back illuminated

Resolution: 11.7 megapixels, 4144 x 2822 (2x2 Binning)

Resolution: 46.8 megapixels, 8288 x 5644 (1x1 Binning)

Pixel size: 4.63 µm (2x2 Binning), 2.32µm (1x1 Binning)

Sensor size: 19.1mm x 13.0mm - 23.2mm diagonal

Exposure time: m32µs to 2000s

Maximum frame rate at full resolution: 16.3 fps

QE: up to 90%

Full Well: approx. 66 ke-

Readout noise: 1.2 to 7.3e-

ADC: 14 bit

Sensor protection: Protective AR glass

Cooling: Peltier cooling up to 35°C below ambient

Software demands: USB 3.0 should be supported by operating system

Cache: 256 MB DDR3 cache

Telescope connection: T2, 2" and 1.25"

Distance T2-thread (female) to sensor: 17.5mm (6.5mm without adapter)

Dimensions: 78mm diameter and 73.5mm length (without 4mm male T2 thread)

Weight: 410g

Whats included:

ASI camera cooled, with 11mm T2 ring

Camera bag

USB 3.0 cable, 2m

Quick Guide (English)

T2 extension (21mm long)

M48 to T2 adapter (16.5mm long)

Adapter from T2 to 1.25" socket with filter thread

Dust cap 1.25"

M42-M48 adapter (without optical path)

2x USB 2.0 cable, 0.5m

Flat adapter T2 to 1.25" thread (without optical path)

4x spacer ring

Download the ASI 294MC-P Manual here

Download the latest Camera Driver from ZWO here
