The Vixen SD103SII OTA telescope is a new 103mm apochromatic refractor with high-performance Super ED (SD) glass. The advantage of this SD refractor lies in its short length and light weight. The FPL53 glass used in the telescope reproduces an extremely clear and sharp image thanks to its exceptionally high reduction of residual chromatic aberration. The SD glass is designed to focus all rays – violet, red, blue, yellow, and green – very precisely onto the same plane and this special lens material also reduces chromatic aberration across all colors.

The new Vixen SD103SII no longer uses spacers , which results in significantly better image quality, especially with bright stars. Therefore, the spikes around stars that were previously caused by spacers are no longer visible in photographs. You will be amazed when you observe the moon or the brighter planets in exceptional sharpness and extremely high contrast. Brighter deep-sky objects  like the Orion Nebula or the Andromeda Galaxy can also be impressively observed from dark sky locations.

In combination with the new optional SD Reducer HD Kit or SD Flattener HD (not included), this refractor telescope provides a 44mm image circle for full-frame DSLR cameras . The older ED81SII, ED103S, and ED115S refractors were originally designed for visual observers and photographers using APS-C cameras. However, the new SD series is optimized for use with full-frame cameras thanks to the use of new internal baffles . The large 60mm focuser also allows for the attachment of even heavy cameras without tilting. Furthermore, the included diagonal mirror enables convenient viewing even in challenging observing positions and also features a T2 thread for attaching a DSLR camera. The carrying handle attached to the pipe clamps ensures
