Sternenbeobachtungs-Guide Sommer 2026: Die besten Teleskope und Zubehör für irische Himmel

Published: July 2026 by Horizon Astronomy • Telescope Center
Summer in Ireland is a fantastic time for Astronomy. Yes, the nights are shorter — but the skies are often clearer, the temperatures are kinder, and there's a spectacular lineup of celestial events waiting for you to see. Whether you're looking forward to the 2026 Solar Eclipse this year or you're just getting started in Astronomy and would like some more helpful guidance, this guide will help you make the most of the Irish summer night sky.
🌌 What's in the Summer 2026 Night Sky?
June–August 2026 offers some of the year's most rewarding targets:
- Saturn rises in the east by late evening and is perfectly placed for viewing its iconic rings through even a small beginner telescope.
- Jupiter also returns to prominence in the pre-dawn sky — a stunning target for any telescope.
- The Milky Way core becomes visible from dark-sky sites in Ireland (Connemara, Kerry, and the Burren are excellent spots to try). Lots to see here even with good Astronomy Binoculars.
- Noctilucent Clouds (NLCs) — a uniquely Irish summer treat, visible on the northern horizon after sunset in June and July. Ireland's latitude of between 50° and 55° North, places it in a very unique 'sweet spot' for viewing these.
- Perseid Meteor Shower peaks around 11 - 13 August — no telescope needed, just a reclining chair, maybe a coffee and of course clear skies
- M13 (Hercules Cluster), M57 (Ring Nebula), and Scorpius are all well-placed for summer observing too, and even a modest telescope will show some nice detail on these targets.
🔭 Telescopes for Summer Stargazing in Ireland
For Beginners:
Celestron StarSense Explorer LT80AZ — Best value Push-To refractor
Uses your smartphone to identify and locate objects in the night sky. Simply follow the arrows on your phone to move from one object to another of your choice. Brilliant for families and anyone who wants to spend less time finding objects and more time enjoying them. At 80mm aperture, it handles the Moon, planets, and bright deep-sky objects beautifully.
Celestron StarSense Explorer DX102AZ — Step up in aperture
Same functionality as the LT80AZ but the 102mm aperture gives you noticeably more light-gathering power - great for splitting double stars and picking out even more details on Saturn's rings.
Bresser Messier AR-80/640 Nano AZ Telescope — Compact refractor, big views
A lightweight, portable refractor telescope that's easy to set up in the garden or pack in the car for a trip to a dark-sky site. Perfect for summer nights.
Smart Telescopes That Do the Work For You
If you're new to astronomy or want a hassle-free experience on those precious clear Irish nights, smart telescopes are literally a game-changer. Although you don't look through an eyepiece like a conventional telescope, the Smart-Telescope will locate any object in the sky automatically and the in-built camera in the Telescope will send you 'LIVE' colour photos of the object in real time. The longer you leave it photographing the object, the longer the total exposure and therefore the more colour and detail you will see.

For more Serious Observers: High-Aperture Telescopes
Celestron NexStar 8SE — The ultimate visual telescope
8 inches of aperture on a fully computerised GoTo mount. This is the telescope that will show you the Cassini Division in Saturn's rings, cloud bands on Jupiter, and thousands of deep-sky objects. A lifetime investment if you are a keen Astronomer.
Celestron NexStar Evolution 6" SC — WiFi-enabled GoTo
Control your telescope from your phone via WiFi. The Evolution mount is whisper-quiet and incredibly precise — ideal for long observing sessions throughout the year.
Bresser Messier 254 Dobsonian – 10" & Bresser Messier 203 Dobsonian – 8" — Maximum aperture for visual observers
Dobsonians give you the most aperture for your money. The 10" will show you distant galaxy structure, globular cluster resolution, and planetary detail that will just simply take your breath away. No motors, no fuss — just pure optical power.
🔬 Don't Forget the Accessories
A great telescope is only as good as its accessories. Here are some of our summer recommendations:
- Eyepieces — Eyepieces are the magnifying power of your telescope. You will have one or more eyepieces included in all of our beginner telescopes but different eyepieces offer different magnifications and field-of-views so you can greatly expand on the types of objects you can see.
- Filters — Filters really help to enhance your viewing experience by increasing contrast or helping to reduce the glare from city lights. Planetary filters are very useful for viewing the planets and a Moon filter is an absolute must if your telescope doesn't already include one.
- Red torch — Essential for preserving your night vision, reading charts or simply finding your way around in the dark.
-
Planetarium APP — Probably one of the most important features we can recommend is also the one that costs the least...in fact its FREE. 'Stellarium' is a free Planetarium APP you can download from the Google Play store or Apple store and will help you navigate the sky with ease, find different objects such as planets or galaxies, and tell you when they will be visible in your sky.
